1. Data controller

2. Information we collect

Account information: If you register or sign in, we may process your name, email address, password (stored hashed/handled by our application), profile details, and content you publish.

Contact requests: If you use the contact form or email us, we process the message content and your contact details to respond.

Usage and device data: Our hosting and application servers may process IP address, browser type, device information, requested URLs, timestamps, and similar server-log data for security and operations.

Local browser storage: The site may store essential items such as authentication tokens, consent preferences, theme preference, saved article IDs, and recent search terms in localStorage (see Cookie Policy).

Cookies and similar technologies: Used for essential operation and, only after consent where required, for optional analytics and advertising as described below.

3. Hosting and security

TeachNews is hosted on infrastructure operated for teachnews.de (application and database containers behind HTTPS). Server logs may be retained for security, debugging, and abuse prevention according to operational needs — TODO: confirm exact retention with the host/operator.

We use HTTPS in production and apply common security headers (for example HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options, X-Frame-Options, Referrer-Policy, Permissions-Policy) via the reverse proxy. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure.

4. How we use information

To operate, maintain, and improve TeachNews.

To publish and display editorial content and manage accounts.

To respond to support and contact requests.

To secure the service, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors.

With your consent (where required): to use optional analytics and/or advertising technologies such as Google AdSense when those features are enabled in production configuration.

5. Legal bases (to be confirmed)

6. Advertising, Google AdSense, and Consent Management

TeachNews is prepared to display ads via Google AdSense when a valid publisher ID is configured and advertising is enabled. Until that configuration is provided, AdSense scripts are not loaded.

When AdSense is enabled and you consent to advertising, Google and its partners may use cookies, advertising identifiers, or similar technologies to deliver, measure, and (where allowed) personalize ads. Third parties involved in ad serving may place or read cookies or use similar identifiers on your device.

For personalized advertising in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Google requires a certified CMP integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. TeachNews is prepared to use Google AdSense Privacy & messaging (European regulations message). Configure that certified CMP in the AdSense dashboard before enabling personalized ads. The on-site first-party preference panel stores TeachNews category choices and gates optional scripts; it does not fabricate an IAB TCF consent string and is not itself described as a Google-certified CMP.

Consent Mode v2 defaults optional Google signals to denied until you grant the relevant categories. Advertising consent maps to ad_storage, ad_user_data, and ad_personalization; analytics consent maps to analytics_storage; preference consent maps to functionality_storage and personalization_storage; security_storage remains granted for essential security.

7. Analytics

Optional Google Analytics may be enabled later via configuration. It is not loaded unless a measurement ID is configured and you grant analytics consent. If disabled in configuration, no Google Analytics requests are made.

8. Embeds and fonts

Editorial content may include privacy-enhanced YouTube embeds (youtube-nocookie.com) when authors insert videos. Loading an embed contacts Google/YouTube.

The site currently loads fonts from Google Fonts, which may receive technical request data (such as IP address). Self-hosting fonts is recommended to reduce third-party contact.

9. Sharing and international transfers

We share data with processors who host or operate the site, and—when advertising or analytics are enabled and consented—with Google and advertising partners as needed to deliver those services.

Google and other providers may process data in the United States or other countries. TODO — Document transfer mechanisms (e.g. SCCs) relied upon for your contracts with providers.

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

10. Retention

Account and content data are retained while the account/content exists and as needed for legal obligations — TODO: confirm specific retention schedules.

Server logs: retained according to security and operational criteria — TODO: confirm duration.

Consent preferences: stored in your browser until you change or clear them, or until a material policy/consent-version change requires a new choice.

We do not claim that TeachNews can delete third-party cookies set on other domains.

11. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to data portability. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Germany, typically your state data protection authority or the BfDI).

You can open Cookie settings from the site footer at any time to change or withdraw optional consent. Withdrawing consent stops future loading of optional analytics/advertising scripts controlled by this application.

Global Privacy Control (GPC) and US-state privacy signals: when Google Privacy & messaging US-state messages are configured, follow that CMP’s supported behavior. TeachNews does not treat GPC as advertising consent and does not override a stricter user choice with a weaker one.

12. Children

TeachNews is not directed to children under 16 (or the higher minimum age required in your jurisdiction for consent-based processing). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for optional advertising. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal data.

13. Automated decision-making

TeachNews does not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you within this application. Advertising platforms may use automated systems to select ads when advertising is enabled—see Google’s policies for details.

14. Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date and version (2026-07-24) change when we do. Material changes to optional technologies may bump the consent version so you are asked again.
